Oceanique Villa 144 at Benguela Cove Wine Estate, Hermanus
Perched above the shimmering waters of the Bot River Lagoon in the heart of the Overberg, 144 Oceanique is a landmark luxury villa that sets the standard for Hermanus accommodation. Part of the celebrated Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - recognised as a WWF Conservation Champion and situated within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - this five-bedroom retreat offers an extraordinary convergence of natural heritage, world-class wine, and effortless coastal living.
With space for up to ten guests, Oceanique is designed for those who expect the exceptional. Whether you're gathering with family, celebrating a milestone, or simply seeking an escape that honours the natural world around it, this villa delivers in every respect.
The Villa
Step inside and the scale of the property becomes immediately apparent. Five beautifully appointed king bedrooms - including a master suite with a private balcony, en-suite bath and shower, and commanding views - accommodate guests across the main house and a private courtyard annex. The annex's fifth bedroom features its own en-suite bathroom, lounge, and private veranda, offering a welcome degree of independence for those who prefer it.
Interiors are warm and cosy, with smart TV's throughout, air conditioning in the principal bedrooms, and indoor fireplaces that make the villa every bit as inviting during the cooler months as it is in summer. The full gourmet kitchen is equipped for everything from a relaxed breakfast to a private dinner party, and with a private chef available on request, your culinary ambitions need not stop there.
Outside, the villa's private swimming pool and wood-fired hot tub take centre stage - the latter particularly magical as dusk settles over the lagoon and vineyards. An outdoor braai area completes the picture for those who prefer their evenings spent under the southern stars.
Practical comforts are equally well considered: inverter backup power ensures uninterrupted stays, high-speed Wi-Fi keeps you connected, and daily housekeeping keeps the villa immaculate throughout your visit. A garage, washer, and drying line attend to the everyday.
Life on the Estate
Benguela Cove is far more than a backdrop. As one of South Africa's most celebrated wine estates - and a proud WWF Conservation Champion -it invites guests to engage with the land and its story at every turn. In-villa wine tastings and estate wines available on request bring the winemaking heritage directly to your table, whilst the on-site wine tasting room and winery offer a more immersive experience at your leisure.
The Moody Lagoon Restaurant is a destination in its own right, serving seasonally inspired menus with lagoon views that are nothing short of theatrical. After dinner, evenings on the estate feel deliciously unhurried.
Active guests will find no shortage of ways to spend their days. The estate's private 2.7 km waterfront provides access to the lagoon and a range of water sports, whilst the Lady Bonnie Pontoon Boat is available for a more leisurely exploration of the water. Vineyard safari tours offer a fascinating insight into the estate's winemaking and conservation work, and the 12 km running and walking trail winds through landscapes that speak eloquently to the area's status as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Families with younger guests will appreciate the Splash Pad Waterpark, Pirate Adventure Golf, and the popular Park Run held on the estate every Saturday morning.
Throughout your stay, 24-hour security ensures complete peace of mind, and a car and driver can be arranged upon request for exploring the surrounding region.
